Heian sandan – Practice and Refine | Kata Academy
In the kata Heian sandan, the lateral straddle stance (Kiba dachi) appears for the first time and forms the foundation of this form. The shift from the predominantly forward- and backward-oriented stances (Zenkutsu dachi and Kōkutsu dachi) of the first two kata to a lateral orientation opens up an entirely new dimension in Shōtōkan karate.
When you understand how your body truly works – how power flows from the ground to the fist, how kime functions – you don't train harder, but smarter and more precisely. That is real, holistic development instead of random training.
This online course, part of the FT-KARATE Kata Academy, includes the following modules for practice and refinement: the kata video from two different perspectives, a biomechanics explanation, a self-assessment checklist, fundamental principles, variations, an analysis of the most common mistakes, interpretations and in-depth study, as well as the accompanying enbusen chart – all structured in one place.
With and by Fiore Tartaglia, 7th Dan, and 50+ years of intensively lived karate practice.
