Yoko geri keage
The side-snapping foot technique can reach not only frontal targets, but also those located to the side.
The yoko geri keage hits targets from the bottom up, with the outer edge of the foot positioned horizontally. Preferred targets are the armpit and the lower area of the chin. However, it can also be used as a defensive technique (this occurs in the kata as a possible interpretation) to direct attacks upward.
Yoko geri kekomi
The side thrusting foot technique, like the keage version of yoko geri, reaches lateral and frontal targets.
The targets of yoko geri kekomi are on all three levels. At the gedan level, it is referred to as fumikomi.
