Bad Ditzenbach: From Black Belt to Master - New Book for Karate Athletes
Just in time for the Karate World Championships in Bremen (November 1-9, 2014), Europe's most successful karate author, Fiore Tartaglia, presents his seventh book. In "From Black Belt to Master," the German-Italian explores the basic principles of karate in depth over 112 pages. Primarily practice-oriented and illustrated with numerous graphics, the author addresses the interface between skillful physical exercise and inner life attitude.
Central to this is kime, the combination of physical and mental energy into a powerful action. Because Western culture, unlike Asian culture, separates the two levels, Tartaglia combines them. The 6th Dan holder, who is giving courses in Bremen ahead of the World Championships, describes how the karateka combines anatomical elements such as muscles and breath with immaterial elements such as intention and will in his movements.
Each movement outlined in the book is, as is usual with the Göppingen artist's works, broken down into several images, allowing the fighter to study, for example, the "withdrawing hand" with action and reaction in detail. In essence, the training thus merges with the basic principle of life: tensing and relaxing. Because only those who live this alternation over the long term remain in rhythm and healthy.
The now 56-year-old published his first book at the WiM 2000 in Munich. His works, which are also available in English, Italian, French, and Spanish, are used not only by the German Karate Federation, which already has 110,000 members. Tartaglia's total circulation now exceeds 40,000 copies. Five of his self-published books are also available digitally. Around 80 eBooks are currently distributed worldwide each month.
The author, who has run a dojo in Bad Ditzenbach-Gosbach since 2003, where 160 martial arts enthusiasts currently train weekly, teaches around twelve seminars nationwide each year, each with 50 to 140 participants. Tartaglia is therefore rooted in practice, which is clearly evident in his books. In his current work, "From Black Belt to Master," the interested karateka will feel completely in his element from the very first line and will feel the urge to try out the suggested movements right away.
Two fold-out flaps built into the cover provide a key to the symbols and a list of Japanese terms used as a constant companion throughout the entire book. It is required reading for karateka who wants to delve beyond the technical surface of the movement into the philosophy. ISBN: 978-3-945583-01-2 (€22). www.budo-books.com
