KŌKUTSU DACHI

Kōkutsu dachi is mainly suitable for defensive techniques, but in various kata it is repeatedly used in conjunction with attacking techniques. It appears for the first time in Heian shodan.

Unlike zenkutsu dachi, in kōkutsu dachi you stand lengthwise with both heels on the same line.

As with the forward stances, the length corresponds to about twice the shoulder width.
