Mawashi geri can hit with both the ball of the foot (Koshi) and the instep of the foot (Haisoku). The circular foot technique calls for a rotation of the entire body from the beginning of the movement to the target.
The mawashi geri is executed diagonally from bottom to top for Jōdan targets. However, the horizontal to slightly downward sloping execution is the strongest. Mawashi geri does not occur in the kata.
