The nukite posture is also called yonhon nukite (four fingertips) or gohon nukite (five fingertips). The most important thing in nukite is to angle the middle finger, which is longer than the index and ring fingers, so that it stabilizes the hand and is brought to the same length as the two fingers next to it. Thus, the target is hit by a compact area that forms the tip of these three fingers.
Used very frequently in many kata, the nukite is already found in three of the five basic kata: Heian nidan, sandan and godan.
